About
Me
My name is Virginia, and I am the author of Pics
and Poems. I’ve
lived in the New Hampshire area for the past 26 years
where I also worked as a full-time middle school secretary
until my retirement in June, 2008.
The school provided me with a wonderfully
stimulating environment, and my daily association with
children helped to keep me “young at heart!” I
consider myself fortunate to live in New Hampshire,
where all the seasons are beautiful, but where I
especially enjoy autumn with its blaze of colorful
foliage.
I’ve been married to my husband, Ed, for
44 years - he is my soul mate!
We were both born and brought up in
Massachusetts, and enjoy traveling together when the
opportunity presents itself. We've had some
wonderful excursions to Montreal, Pennsylvania, Ohio,
and enjoyed trips to all the New England states.
For 13 years, from the mid-Sixties and through
most of the Seventies, we lived in California
(Berkeley/San Francisco area), and during that time span
traveled across the United States, from coast to coast,
3 times. I’m
grateful for those experiences, as these trips gave me
an unforgettable view of this beautiful country.
Our last trip resulted in a permanent move from
California back to Massachusetts, then to New Hampshire
in 1983, where we have remained until the present.
My
family brings me great joy - I cherish time spent with my
adult children and grandchildren. Since we don't
live very close to our children, the quality of our time
together has become especially significant to me.
I also enjoy writing poetry and creating pages for
my web site. Additional
hobbies include: reading; listening to music; going to the
movies (and watching some good videos at home, too);
painting and drawing (for which I never seem to have
enough time, lately); chatting/having lunch with friends
and family; spontaneous Sunday rides with hubby, or walks
when weather permits; mall, book store, and computer store
shopping.
I love animals, and I am especially interested in
elephants. I
can never learn enough about this magnificent, but
endangered, species; thus, the inspiration to write the
poem, “Elephants.”
I have collected several books and artifacts on
this marvelous creature and hope to add more information
to this site about this fascinating animal in the near
future.
Scary books and movies have always intrigued me,
and I had a lot of fun creating my Halloween pages. I’ve been known to bury myself in a Stephen King novel and
not come up for air until it’s finished (pure escapism),
and I have a fantasy of some day writing my own thriller
(well, we all need dreams, right)?
There are many blessings to be thankful for in my
life, including a wonderful husband, my family and
friends, and reasonably good health. Although I've
retired from full-time work, one never retires from life, however, and I
look forward to many years of learning from the
experiences and opportunities that come my way each day.
As I've
grown older, I enjoy taking the time to “stop and smell
the flowers” and appreciate the simple pleasures in
life. Each
day, I try to focus upon, and direct my energies toward
what I have “in my own backyard,” rather than
ruminating over what I don’t have.
We all have those “down” days, however, and
when I need to dig myself out of the doldrums, “The
Serenity Prayer” has always served as a wonderful guide
and daily reminder as to what my priorities should be.
A “one day at a time” philosophy continues to
be my mantra, and “The Serenity Prayer” is my
spiritual reality check for helping me through the
stressful times in my life. I have created a plaque with
the shortened version of this prayer and placed it on my
homepage.
That’s about it, for
now, dear friends. I hope you enjoy your visit, and come back often.
Thank
you for visiting...
Wishing
you peace and blessings,
Virginia
